The First Day
Red, orange, yellow and brown
Are colours she sees from up to down
As she’s singing and swinging
And spinning and dreaming,
Mum is calling, ‘the bell’s ringing!’
She drips from her seat,
To step down on her feet
But oh dear! branches snap,
Acorns drop from her lap,
Waking hedgehogs from their nap.
How she wishes she could stay some more
She’s never had to stop playing before
Down the street, off she goes,
Filling her pockets with tons of acorns.
For good luck.
